Zirconia-based Crowns and Bridges
Teeth have gone high-tech and the hands-down winner is your smile.
Advances in dentistry have made it harder to detect a natural tooth from a crown.
A zirconium-based core under an enamel shell produces some of the most natural crowns and bridges on the market.
Zirconia, often called white steel, is a ceramic material used in crowns and bridges, giving the replacement tooth a whiter, brighter, more translucent quality. It is the same material used to create long-lasting artificial hip joints.
In lab tests, zirconia-based crown and bridges were twice as strong as traditional crown, which were made by fusing porcelain to metal.
"The zirconium, which replaces metal in the design of a crown, has given us the tools we need to replace a tooth that doesn't look like a replacement tooth at all," Dr. Williamson said. "Zirconia is one of the most biocompatible materials used in medicine today."
That biocompatibility means you can rest easier knowing you don't have to worry about allergies or adverse reactions.
