Extractions

Dr. Williamson works to preserve every tooth. Sometimes, so much of the tooth becomes decayed that it cannot be restored. When that happens, an extraction may be necessary. Tooth extraction may also be necessary to remove impacted wisdom teeth as well as permanent teeth to make space for orthodontic treatment.

Dr. Williamson performs extractions in the convenience and comfort of her office. Extractions performed at Smiles on Broadway are those that require a local anesthetic. Dr. Williamson refers patients who require the removal of impacted wisdom teeth and the use of general anesthesia to one of several highly skilled oral surgeons in the area.

Very often, a patient's first experience with a dental extraction is when one or more wisdom teeth become impacted or crowd other teeth. Regular dental check-ups and X-rays can help show a developing problem with a wisdom tooth before there is any pain or infection.

"Wisdom teeth can cause a host of problems," Dr. Williamson says. "As children grow, we take special notice of the development of the wisdom teeth to try to stay one step ahead of any problems they may cause."
