Fillings
Treating a cavity means removing the decayed portion of the tooth and then filling the area where the decayed material once was. Fillings are also used to repair cracked or broken teeth and teeth that have been worn down from such things as nail biting and tooth grinding.
There are a number of filling materials to choose from. Teeth can be filled with gold; porcelain; a silver amalgam consisting of mercury mixed with silver, tin, zinc and copper; natural-looking plastic and glass materials known as composite resins; or ceramics made of porcelain.
